Yin yoga (as opposed to or complementing Yang yoga) is a gentle practice with long-held poses that has subtle effects on us at the physical, energetic, emotional, mental and spiritual levels. In Yin yoga we don't engage our muscles while in an asana, so we can target directly the body's deepest or connective tissues: tendons, ligaments, fascia, etc. These "Yin" tissues are more rigid than "Yang" tissues like the muscles, which are more elastic and respond best to rhythmic and repetitive movements.
